The VOLVO OCEAN RACE came to Baltimore/Annapolis this past April and the restart for Leg 7 to La Rochelle France took place on 28 APR, a cool, wet, foggy day.  I was fortunate enough to have access to a boat and 11 of us went out to watch the start.  We anchored about 150 yds. from the pre-race starting box and maybe 300 yds. from the starting line!
You can see how close we were as the boats manuevered for the start.
ASSA and DJUICE mix it up prior to the start!
Seconds prior to the START!   The fog has closed in; visibility less than a mile and drizzling.
The guns sounds and they're off!
AMER SPORTS ONE tacks away; when the fleet short tacks to pass under the bridge, A.S.O. will be on starboard. The rest of the fleet being on port will be obliged to give way allowing A.S.O. a brief moment as race leader.
40 minutes after the start, the skies cleared and the sun came out to give us a gorgeous afternoon of sailing in 12-14 knots!  That's Mark on the helm w/ a big smile on his face!
Jeannine's first time sailing; wet and cold do NOT make for a fun time!
James stands watch from the bowsprit.
